Question Details

 City of Windhoek
Project 1: The Upgrading of Gammams Wastewater Treatment Plant (GWWTP) The existing treatment plant needs an upgrade in terms of operations efficiency and to increase the capacity of the plant to cater for current influent and the projected growth in the population contributing to the plant. This project is subject to securing financing, but is expected to commence early 2020 and to be completed by early 2024. Estimated value is N$600 to N$750 million depending on the implementation method being phased or not. Project 2: The New Direct Potable Reclamation Plant (DPR) Given the persistent drought the Central Areas of Namibia faces, there is a need for alternative potable water supply sources, of which DPR is one. CoW has an existing DPR plant (WINGOC) that has been augmenting supply to City of Windhoek for decades, and the addition of another DPR plant will just alleviate the dependency of Windhoek on the surface water sources and provide water security during the drought periods. The Project is subject to securing financing, but is expected to commence mid 2020 and to be completed by early 2025. Estimated value is N$450 million, but this valuation is still subject to the outcome of the feasibility studies to be conducted.
